The world is mine
Today, upon a bus, I saw a girl with golden hair
I looked at her and sighed and wished I was as fair.
When suddenly she rose to leave,
I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one leg and used a crutch
But as she passed, she passed a smile.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine
I have 2 legs, the world is mine.
~~~
I stopped to buy some candy
The lad who sold it had such charm
I talked with him a while, he seemed so very glad
If I were late, it'd do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me,
"I thank you, you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have 2 eyes, the world is mine.
~~~
Later while walking down the street,
I saw a child with eyes of blue
He stood and watched the others play
He did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said,
"Why don't you join the others, dear?"
He looked ahead without a word.
And then I knew, he couldn't hear.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have 2 ears, the world is mine.
~~~
With feet to take me where I'd go.
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I would know.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I've been blessed indeed, The world is mine.
The Key
I came upon a gate one day
Outsid e an open field
And on the bars there hung a sign
Which space and time concealed
Upon the ground, beneath the dirt
I found a golden key
I looked upon the gate once more
To find what I could see
The gate which stood there, stood no more
A memory from a dream
Upon the ground I found a path
Along a silver stream
My journey followed down this path
To see what I could see
To find what I was looking for
The path to destiny
I left the seeds of happiness
And turned round with a smile
I left the seeds of sadness
And walked a lonely mile
I left the seeds of victory
And heard the sound of cheers
I left the seeds of tragedy
And wiped away my tears
I left the seeds of intellect
And pondered thru the night
I left the seeds of beauty
And saw an angel's light
When last my path had reached it's end
A vision came to me
I looked upon my gate again
Outside an open sea
There was a lock upon the gate
But now I had the key
And the sign upon the gate now read
Infinite possibility. .
Joy Of Being You
To get where you wish to go, you must take an active role in the journey. Though many good and valuable things are constantly flowing into your life, it is up to you to make something meaningful out of them.
No one else can live your life for you. That is your biggest responsibility and your greatest opportunity.
Your dreams and desires, passions, opinions, preferences and interests are yours for a reason. The more sincerely and completely you give life to them, the more genuine fulfillment you will know.
Beauty is what you know it to be. Joy is what you experience it as being.
The meaning of life is the meaning you give to it. Deep down, you know what to do.
Dive into the pure joy of being you. For there is so very much you are able to be and to give.
Selfless love
My wife called, 'How long will you be poring over that newspaper?
Will you come here and make your darling daughter eat her food?'
I tossed the paper away and rushed to the scene.
My only daughter Sindu looked frightened. Tears were welling up in her eyes. In front of her was a bowl filled to its brim with Curd Rice.
Sindu is a nice child, quite intelligent for her age. She has just turned eight.
She particularly detested Curd Rice. My mother and my wife are orthodox, and believe firmly in the 'coolingeffects' of Curd Rice! I cleared my throat, and picked up the bowl. 'Sindu, darling, why don't you take a few mouthful of this Curd Rice?Just for Dad's sake, dear. And, if you don't, your Mom will shout at me'I could sense my wife's scowl behind my back.
Sindu softened a bit, and wiped her tears with the back of her hands.
'OK, Dad. I will eat - not just a few mouthfuls, but the whole lot of this.
But, you should...' Sindu hesitated.
'Dad, if I eat this entire curd Rice, will you give me whatever I ask for?'
'Oh sure, darling'.
'Promise?'
'Promise'.
I covered the pink soft hand extended by my daughter with mine, and clinched the deal. 'Ask Mom also to give a similar promise', my daughter insisted. My wife slapped her hand on Sindu's, muttering 'Promise', without any emotion.
Now I became a bit anxious. 'Sindu dear, you shouldn’t insist on getting a computer or any such expensive items. Dad does not have that kind of money right now. OK?'
'No, Dad. I do not want anything expensive’.
Slowly and painfully, she finished eating the whole quantity.
I was silently angry with my wife and my mother for forcing my child eat something that she detested. After the ordeal was through, Sindu came to me with her eyes wide with expectation. All our attention was on her.
'Dad, I want to have my head shaved off, this Sunday!' was her demand.
'Atrocious!' shouted my wife, 'A girl child having her head shaved off?
Impossible!'
'Never in our family!' my mother rasped.
'She has been watching too much of television.
Our culture is getting totally spoiled with these TV programs!'
'Sindu darling, why don't you ask for something else?
We will be sad seeing you with a clean-shaven head.'
'No, Dad. I do not want anything else', Sindu said with finality.
'Please, Sindu, why don’t you try to understand our feelings?' I tried to plead with her.
'Dad, you saw how difficult it was for me to eat that Curd Rice'. Sindu was in tears. 'And you promised to grant me whatever I ask for. Now, you are going back on your words. Was it not you who told me the story of King Harishchandra, and its moral that we should honor our promises no matter what?'
It was time for me to call the shots. 'Our promise must be kept.'
'Are you out your mind?' chorused my mother and wife.
'No. If we go back on our promises, she will never learn to honor her own.
Sindu, your wish will be fulfilled.'
With her head clean-shaven, Sindu had a round-face, and her eyes looked big and beautiful.
On Monday morning, I dropped her at her school.
It was a sight to watch my hairless Sindu walking towards her classroom.
She turned around and waved.
I waved back with a smile.
Just then, a boy alighted from a car, and shouted, 'Sinduja, please wait for me!'
What struck me was the hairless head of that boy. 'May be, that is the in-stuff', I thought.
'Sir, your daughter Sinduja is great indeed!' Without introducing herself, a lady got out of the car, and continued,’ That boy who is walking along with your daughter is my son Harish.
He is suffering from... ... leukemia.' She paused to muffle her sobs.
'Harish could not attend the school for the whole of the last month.
He lost all his hair due to the side effects of the chemotherapy.
He refused to come back to school fearing the unintentional but cruel teasing of the schoolmates.'
Sinduja visited him last week, and promised him that she will take care of the teasing issue.
But, I never imagined she would sacrifice her lovely hair for the sake of my son!
Sir, you and your wife are blessed to have such a noble soul as your daughter.'
I stood transfixed. And then, I wept.
'My little Angel, you are teaching me how self-less real love is!'
Never stop making pancakes
Six year old Brandon decided one Saturday morning to fix his parents pancakes. He found a big bowl and spoon, pulled a chair to the counter, opened the cupboard and pulled out the heavy flour canister, spilling it on the floor. He scooped some of the flour into the bowl with his hands, mixed in most of a cup of milk and added some sugar, leaving a floury trail on the floor which by now had a few tracks left by his kitten.
Brandon was covered with flour and getting frustrated. He wanted this to be something very good for Mom and Dad, but it was getting very bad. He didn't know what to do next, whether to put it all into the oven or on the stove, (and he didn't know how the stove worked!). Suddenly he saw his kitten licking from the bowl of mix and reached to push her away, knocking the egg carton to the floor. Frantically he tried to clean up this monumental mess but slipped on the eggs, getting his pajamas white and sticky. And just then he saw Dad standing at the door. Big crocodile tears welled up in Brandon's eyes. All he'd wanted to do was something good, but he'd made a terrible mess. He was sure a scolding was coming, maybe even a spanking. But his father just watched him.
Then, walking through the mess, he picked up his crying son, hugged him and loved him, getting his own pajamas white and sticky in the process.
That's how God deals with us. We try to do something good in life, but it turns into a mess. Our marriage gets all sticky or we insult a friend or we can't stand our job or our health goes sour. Sometimes we just stand there in tears because we can't think of anything else to do.
That's when God picks us up and loves us and forgives us, even though some of our mess gets all over Him. But just because we might mess up, we can't stop trying to "make pancakes," for God or for others. Sooner or later we'll get it right, and then they'll be glad we tried...
LOL :D
Nice One:
A man goes to the doctor with a swollen leg. After a careful examination, the doctor gives the man a pill big enough to choke a horse. "I'll be right back with some water," the doctor tells him. The doctor has been gone a while and the man loses patience. He hobbles out to the drinking fountain, forces the pill down his throat and gobbles down water until the pill clears his throat. He hobbles back into the examining room. The doctor comes back with a bucket of warm water. "Ok, after the tablet dissolves, you should soak that leg for at least 30 minutes."
The Out House
Once there was a little boy that lived in the country. They had to use an outhouse, and the little boy hated it because it was hot in the summer and cold in the winter and stank all the time. The outhouse was sitting on the bank of a creek and the boy determined that one day he would push that outhouse into the creek. One day after a spring rain, the creek was swollen so the little boy decided today was the day to push the outhouse into the creek. So he got a large stick and started pushing.
Finally, the outhouse toppled into the creek and floated away. That night his dad told him they were going to the woodshed after supper. Knowing that meant a spanking, the little boy asked why. The dad replied, "Someone pushed the outhouse into the creek today. It was you, wasn't it son?" The boy answered yes. Then he thought a moment an d said, "Dad, I read in school today that George Washington chopped down a cherry tree and didn't get into trouble because he told the truth." The dad replied, "Well, son, George Washington's father wasn't in the cherry tree."
Breakfast at the Whitehouse
Dick Cheney and George W. Bush were having breakfast at the White House. The attractive waitress asks Cheney what he would like, and he replies, .."I'd like a bowl of oatmeal and some fruit..." "And what can I get for you, Mr. President?"
George W. looking up from his menu, replies with his trademark wink and slight grin,.... "How about a quickie this morning?""Why, Mr. President!" the waitress exclaims "How rude! You're starting to act like Mr. Clinton, and you've only been in your second term of office for a year!" As the waitress storms away.
Cheney leans over to Bush and whispers..........."It's pronounced 'quiche'.
A man is giving a speech at his lodge meeting. He gets a bit carried away and talks for two hours. Finally, he realizes what he is doing and says, "I'm sorry I talked so long. I left my watch at home." A voice from the back of the room says, "There's a calendar behind you."
Where's the bird?
A carpet layer had just finished installing carpet for a lady.He stepped out for a smoke, only to realize he'd lost his cigarettes. He went back in and in the middle of the room, under the carpet, was a bump. "No sense pulling up the entire floor for one pack of smokes," he said to himself.He got out his hammer and flattened the hump.
As he was cleaning up, the lady came in. "Here," she said, handing him his pack of cigarettes. "I found them in the hallway.""Now," she said, "If only I could find my parakeet."
Ain't it the truth
I was on vacation, playing the slot machines. It was my first time in a casino, and I wasn't sure how the machines operated."Excuse me." I said to a casino employee. "How does this work?"
The worker showed me how to insert a bill, hit the spin button, and operate the release handle."And where does the money come out?" I asked.
He smiled and motioned to a far wall before saying, "Usually at the ATM."
The priest was preparing a man for his long day's journey into night.Whispering firmly, the priest said, "Denounce the devil! Let him know how little you think of his evil!"The dying man said nothing.The priest repeated his advice. Still the dying man said nothing.
The priest asked, "Why do you refuse to denounce the devil and his evil?"The dying man said, "Until I know where I'm heading, I don't think I ought to aggravate anybody!"
The Efficiency Expert
An efficiency expert concluded his lecture with a note of caution. "You need to be careful about trying these techniques at home.""Why?" asked somebody from the audience.
"I watched my wife's routine at dinner for years," the expert explained. "She made lots of trips between the refrigerator, stove, table and cabinets, often carrying a single item at a time. One day I told her, 'Honey, why don't you try carrying several things at once?"
"Did it save time?" the guy in the audience asked. "Actually, yes," replied the expert. "It used to take her 30 minutes to make dinner. Now I do it in ten..
An investment counselor decided to go out on her own. She was shrewd and diligent, so business kept coming in, and pretty soon she realized that she needed an in-house counsel. She began to interview young lawyers.
"As I'm sure you can understand," she started off with one of the first applicants, "in a business like this, our personal integrity must be beyond question." She leaned forward. "Mr. Harper, are you an 'honest' lawyer?"
"Honest?" replied the job prospect. "Let me tell you something about honest. Why, I'm so honest that my father lent me $15,000 for my education, and I paidback every penny the minute I tried my very first case."
"Impressive. And what sort of case was that?" The lawyer squirmed in his seat and admitted, "He sued me for the money."
We make the world....
"You are the people who are shaping a better world. One of the secrets of inner peace is the practice of compassion." -- Dalai Lama (1935 -)
We can decide to make the world that we live in. If we chip in with our little bit, the world would be lot better. It may be apt to take this oath, which was once told by Edward Everett Hale
I am only one,
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
But still I can do something;
And because I cannot do everything
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.
We make the world in which we live
By what we gather and what we give,
By our daily needs and the things we say,
By what we keep or we cast away.
We make our world by the beauty we see
In a skylark's song or lilac tree,
In a butterfly's wing, in the pale moon's rise,
And the wonder that lingers in midnight skies.
We make our world by the life we lead,
By the friends we have, by the books we read,
By the pity we show in the hour of care,
By the loads we lift and the love we share.
We make our world by the goals we pursue,
By the heights we seek and the higher view,
By hopes and dreams that reach the sun,
And a will to fight till the heights are won.
What is the place in which we dwell,
A hut or a palace, a heaven or hell,
We gather and we scatter, we take and we give,
We make our world - and there we live,
Lets us all make an effort to make this WORLD of ours a better place.
We can decide to make the world that we live in. If we chip in with our little bit, the world would be lot better. It may be apt to take this oath, which was once told by Edward Everett Hale
I am only one,
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
But still I can do something;
And because I cannot do everything
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.
We make the world in which we live
By what we gather and what we give,
By our daily needs and the things we say,
By what we keep or we cast away.
We make our world by the beauty we see
In a skylark's song or lilac tree,
In a butterfly's wing, in the pale moon's rise,
And the wonder that lingers in midnight skies.
We make our world by the life we lead,
By the friends we have, by the books we read,
By the pity we show in the hour of care,
By the loads we lift and the love we share.
We make our world by the goals we pursue,
By the heights we seek and the higher view,
By hopes and dreams that reach the sun,
And a will to fight till the heights are won.
What is the place in which we dwell,
A hut or a palace, a heaven or hell,
We gather and we scatter, we take and we give,
We make our world - and there we live,
Lets us all make an effort to make this WORLD of ours a better place.
Growing Older is mandatory. Growing Up is optional
The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.
She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. CanI give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course youmay!" and she gave me a giant squeeze. "Why are you in college at such ayoung, innocent age?" I asked. She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet arich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...""No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to betaking on this challenge at her age. "I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.
After class we walked to the student union building and shared achocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom andexperience with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easilymade friends wherever she went.
She loved to dress up and she reveled inthe attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living itup. At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our footballbanquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, shedropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let mejust tell you what I know."
As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playingbecause we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even knowit!
There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather forthings we did not do. The only people who fear death are those withregrets." She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose."
She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our dailylives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to beall you can possibly be.
These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.
REMEMBER,GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.
We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.
The Serenity Prayer
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.
Everyone Can't Be In Your Front Row
Life is a masterpiece theatre, so invite your audience carefully! Not everyone is holy or healthy enough to have a front row seat in our lives. There are some people in your life that you need to love from a distance. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go, or minimize your time with draining, negative, incompatible, not-going-anywhere relationships/friendships/fellowships! So observe the relationships you allow in to your theatre.
Pay attention to:
Which ones lift and which ones lean?
Which ones encourage and which ones discourage?
Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and those on abackslide going downhill?
Which ones have positive resolutions for you and which ones use your problems against you?
Which ones use you for inspiration and which ones use you as an example in their conversations?
The more you seek growth, peace of mind, love and truth around you, the easier it will become for you to decide who gets to sit in THE FRONT ROW, and who should be moved immediately to the balcony of your life. Sometimes, you might have to have them escorted outside.
You cannot change the people around you, but you can change the people you are around! (Amen!!) Ask God for wisdom and discernment, and choose wisely the people who sit in the front row of your life. It's your show, and you're the star; just remember HE wrote the original script and He's the original director!
You can't change circumstances and you can't change other people, but God can surely change you!
Too often we don't realize
What we have until it's gone.
Too often we wait too late to say
"I'm sorry - I was wrong."
Sometimes it seems we hurt the ones
We hold dearest to our hearts.
And we allow foolish things
To tear our lives apart.
Far too many times we let
Unimportant things into our minds.
And then it's usually too late
To see what made us blind.
So be sure that you let people know
How much they mean to you.
Take that time to say the words
Before your time is through.
Be sure that you appreciate
Everything you've got.
And be thankful for the little things in life...that mean a lot.
What we have until it's gone.
Too often we wait too late to say
The Bible and the Coal Basket
From: Esjay Bee
The Bible and the Coal Basket
Author Unknown (Adapted)
An old man lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with
his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the
kitchen table reading his Bible.
His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in
every way he could. One day the grandson asked, "Papa, I try to read
the Bible just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Bible do?"
The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and
replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a
basket of water." The boy did as he was told, but all the water
leaked out before he got back to the house.
The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster
next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try
again.
This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he
returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible
to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.
The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of
water. You're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door
to watch the boy try again.
At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show
his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water
would leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped
the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his
grandfather the basket was again empty.
Out of breath, he said, "See Papa, it's useless!"
"So you think it is useless?" The old man said, "Look at the basket."
The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the
basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal
basket and was now clean, inside and out.
"Son, that's what happens when you read the Bible. You might not
understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be
changed, inside and out. That is the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives."
When the door of happiness closes, another opens;
But often times we look so long at the
Closed door that we don't see the one,
Which has been opened for us
Don't go for looks; they can deceive.
Don't go for wealth; even that fades away.
Go for someone who makes you smile,
Because it takes only a smile to
Make a dark day seem bright.
Find the one that makes your heart smile.
Dream what you want to dream;
Go where you want to go;
Be what you want to be,
Because you have only one life
And one chance to do all the things
You want to do.
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet
Enough trials to make you strong,
Enough sorrow to keep you human and
Enough hope to make you happy.
The brightest future will always
Be based on a forgotten past;
You can't go forward in life until
You let go of your past failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying
And everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so at the end,
You 're the one who is smiling and everyone
Around you is crying.
But often times we look so long at the
Closed door that we don't see the one,
Which has been opened for us
Don't go for looks; they can deceive.
Don't go for wealth; even that fades away.
And one chance to do all the things
You want to do.
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet
Enough trials to make you strong,
Enough sorrow to keep you human and
Enough hope to make you happy.
The happiest of people don't necessarily
Have the best of everything;
They just make the most of
Everything that comes along their way.
Have the best of everything;
They just make the most of
Everything that comes along their way.
The brightest future will always
Be based on a forgotten past;
You can't go forward in life until
You let go of your past failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying
And everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so at the end,
You 're the one who is smiling and everyone
Around you is crying.
All the water in the world
However hard it tried,
Could never, never sink a ship
Unless it got inside.
All the evil in the world,
The wickedness and sin,
Can never sink your soul’s fair craft
Unless you let it in.
All the hardships of this world,
Might wear you pretty thin,
But they won’t hurt you, one least bit…
Unless you let them in.
IMPOSSIBLE IS JUST A BIG WORD
THROWN AROUND BY SMALL MEN
WHO FIND IT EASIER
TO LIVE IN THE WORLD THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN
IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT A DECLARATION
IT'S A DARE,
IMPOSSIBLE IS TEMPORARY,
